My first car was back in 1978. Ford Cortina Mk2. Soon had it jacked up at the back (longer spring shackles) Appliance 5 spoke wheels (as on my rod now), Front airdam spoiler, sidepipes, tints, front amber cruising lights, red fog light underneath(over axle), full fur interior. All the stuff everyone into modifying was doing in yhe 70's. Regular at Chelsea. Stage 2 1600 xflw bored to 1650, twin weber 40's, high rise inlet, Janspeed exhaust, lumenition ignition, 1600E gearbox.

Looking back it was well tacky IMHO. Only car mag for mods was Custom Car(still going), Hot Car(became Street Machine and now American Car World) and Hot Rod and Custom UK.

Regular at the Chelsea Cruise in it's heyday.

Saw the light and completely stripped the car of handles, door locks, trim (we call nose and decking). Took off the spoiler, sidepipes, cruising lights and fur. Fitted a chrome tube front grill, twin headlights from a Rover, frenched indicators from a Vauxhall Victor, Capri rear lights frenched, and lowered. Got married and sold it.

My first car was a L Reg 1.6 16v LX Escort - which got written off by a Toyota Yaris   . I hold claim to running a ten inch sub off a standard head unit and not blowing anything. Then i had a N Reg 1.6 16V Ghia Escort - which I flogged to me mum. It had two twelves in the boot might have heard it cruising round Ipswich

Now ive got my 51 reg 1.6 16v Zetec Fiesta which can whoop the backside off a Escort GTi (1.8 16v) and has aforementioned two twelves in it. Seen in Ipswich most nights of the week!

My first car?Had my 1st when I was 13,but the first one on the road was an A40,then a Cooper S,then an MGB roadster, crashed that, got another A40 & transplanted all the oily bits from the MG into the A40 turning it a street sleeper.Mark 3 Zodiac followed then into Company cars starting with a brand new straight outta the box MK 3 Tina 1.6.All new daily driver cars from then on,BUT,Always had a car or two somewhere to cruise with & got into it with a 63 Capri,Black with red top up & down the Kings Road all night. It was easy to get there cos I had a flat in Notting Hill at the time

Flat in Notting Hill!! I used to work from the London Electricity depot at Notting Hill in the 70's. Lived near Wembley so Chelsea was a doddle.

My first car was an HB Vauxhall Viva.  It...er, was...um, originally ...(cough) my parents!  Oh the shame!  Look, I was young and stupit, ok?  I was still into bikes then, and had plans to build a Harly Chopper.  Never did.  First modded car was about a year and a half later, a Mk1 Ford Capri.  Jack-up kit, bubble arches, sidepipes, womble fur interior, and the most hideous home painted flames you EVER saw!  Oh, those were the days!
