Dead Forums

Is it me ? or is it the same all over ?

It seems that these forums are dying on their feet..........Why? Isit because so called area reps dont do any work ? what do the PR peeps do ?

There always seem to be a long list of "members" who never post but always seem to join.

At the mo the only forums in the UK that I can see that are alive n well are:

Choose any classic car club.......NSRA......MMA......AHRA.....n even barryboys

p`raps that`s why Dave Nuked this one !! By the way, where did that thread go too ?

Marky boy over at West Suffolk has just deleted all the peeps who have never posted.....As they`re probaly kids or peeps who don`t own a motor or even can`t drive so much the better.............

Yes mate i ave noticed this too and the Cruise scene is pretty crap at the moment too. I think it's mainly cause of the weather but that don't really explain why the Forums are so quiet i guess. Hopefully once the weather improves and events are happening most weekends everything will liven up again!!

If you take some time to visit a few of the forums you will soon see that mostly the membership appear to have run out of things to say once they`ve got past the school play ground drivel. Many peeps can in fact be found on many different websites repeating the mundane crap they`ve spouted already .

If you want to see how a good forum works try these of which I am on :

www.nsra.org.uk

www.ahra.org.uk

www.moparuk.com

www.nastyz28.com

The main reason why these forums work well is the basics

1 all are actual fee paying club members,

2 All members own n drive cars

3 All can repair n build

4 all posts are intelligent

What they don`t have are

1 Area reps(What do they do)

2 pictures of someone elses car as their siggy ........thats really sad

3 non posters

4 A rise in registrations during half term.

How many new topics have you made since you first registered ?

Mike is on the Retrorides forum and that is also very busy, it does seem that the nationwide forums do better as well.

No,I didn`t hang round for advice on motoring issues...Is it me?......................................

The problem that Cruises4causes suffered was that someone kept going on the forum, slagging it off and it suffered a major problem where post disappeared and were tempered with, so the forum re-invented itself.  But in doing this, people had to re-join the forum and that p1ssed loads of people.  It went from having several hundred members to just a handfull and then winter came and people forgot to go on the forum for whatever reason and found new ones to go on, like retro rides. (Lot's of people you'd know are on there Chevy!)

SOme of the forums tend to become quite clicky as well (I won't name names), so if you don't know the in joke then you're lost.  However, for car clubs like our Humber one, forums are going to be the answer, they are a way of seeking advice and keeping in contact with each other etc.  Our museum has a private one, where only members can acess it.  It works quite well, as it is email based a bit like the Uk Hot Rods one.

I thought that the only peeps that were able to tamper with  a forum were those that have access.???

I'll probably get hung-drawn-&-quarter for saying this, but WSMCuk has a lot of guys & gals on there that are getting into the old skool stuff, early Golfs & the like.

Mind you if you go onto Retro-rides, you've got to be into tractors & other weird stuff as well as proper old skool cars.

cheers, glad you like it. well no one else seems to mind, just ask freddie, deuce, flamer etc.

not trying to show off or be bitchy, but on an 'off day' wsmcUK is busier than the 11 guest that this forum shows as its max visitors in one go ever.

Woah!! It's been a long time since I've read an argy bargy starting on thr GB site. Yes it's dead but a few of us that drop in keep it breathing until a GB organised cruise/show...maybe will get it more popular again.

Not wishing to perpetuate an argument. But I think that the WSMCUK attitude of turning up to cruises and shows, whether by invite or not, can only be applauded as being in the 'spirit of cruising'. They are also entitled to be proud of their cars.

C4C I've never found to be clicky. In fact they are very welcoming to whatever car you drive.

I think some forums emerge when that particular forum organises it's own event. So flyers are handed out everywhere to advertise the show. Naturally this attracts peeps to the site. Then a year or maybe Two go by without any event from that site and it dies.

WSMCUK work well because it is more like a club. Like AHRA and even the Vauxhall owners club.

Just my penithworth !! usual essay format....sorry
