CBs Chevy you must be as old as the hills to remember them
Yeah I am.I`m still running one in the daily driver too.
I was even one of the first to have one in`76.Me mate had a USA car lot between Shepherds Bush n Acton on the Askew Rd and that`s kind of where it started on AM.
But when it was made legal I think half the kids got one for Xmas, the Dukes of Hazard was on TV at the time so CB got a lot of exposure.Anyway, once the kids had blocked all40 channels and had found out what everyones handle/tag,age,where they came from, etc etc they got bored and switched off which meant it started to become what it is for .
I sold my first Aunty Mary last year on E bay for £40......but...somewhere I do have a Sharp combination which is a regular FM / Tape plus 40 channels AM & upper n lower sidebands giving a total of 240 channels.By just using 10 watts on an amp you could talk sometimes to the states.............across to europe or from the south coast to sunderland was a piss easy.......When the FM came legal you needed a 100 watt amp just to get up the road
I thought all the old original sets were A.M. not F.M? And my handle was 'Banshee' . Once had a modulation with a trucker in the States by the handle of 'Tenesee Jive Talker'!

The first rigs into the UK were indeed AM (Aunty Mary ) the legal sets were FM.The continental wagon drivers have legal AM for Europe n used to have to leave their rigs at the port of entry to the UK for collection on the return journey.
There are still plenty of wagon drivers on channel 19 which is the mobile channel and also a lot of homebased muppets using 19 when they should be on 14.
