Installing is not a problem,my first was on a new out of the box MK 1 Cavalier.A very simple system using only the kit available in 1976.The head was USA Sharp Radio / Cass & 240 Ch CB combination.I ran both speaker out puts (no pre out then) into 2 x Radioshack 100 watt graphic EQ which were 4 way (front n back balance ). Onet these in fed the highest power pod speakers I could find that fitted under the front seats while the other did the same on the back shelf.I bolted an old Hi Fi speaker cw cabinet in the boot & it didn`t sound too bad.
The `63 Capri that I had at the same time was easier as the back seat was all plywood as standard.I bought household speakers off the shelf ,stripped `em out of the cabinets & retro fitted `em into the back seats.
Right, now the help bit.The chevy currently has a JVC head, single play CD,4 x 60 ( I think )Sony 6 x 9 three way cut into the rear shelf mounted on mdf & using the boot as a sound box & two way 6 inch units in the front doors. There were tweeters in the seatbelt enclosures on the ceiling which I couldn`t get to work.
In the house I use Missions so while I like base lines I also like the crispness of studio quality. It don`t have to be loud to be good !So,there is no room in the boot as that gets filled with camping Kit to go on weekend cruises, the seats are on the floor,I prefer single play as I take a 25 pack CD wallet from car to car.
Any suggestions please ? er,no.I`m not chucking it the skip.
Having 3 way's in your car is the best thing as you like your bass and your mid range whereas if you were a bass head i would've recommended 2 way. Now the thing is are you looking to overhaul your system and get a new one ..... or just advice for new speakers??? Thing is without being funny i don't think you need a high rated system as you're hardly gonna take it to sound off's. If you get yourself some new speakers you need to look at the RMS NOT the high rated output ...... reason being the RMS is the constant level output and not just how loud it can get in parts

Ta.what RMS figure should I be looking at ? I think I`m happy with the rear setas they take what is delivered without distortion to the full vol from the head. There is plenty of space in the door frames width & height although I`ll need to recheck depth for the glass drop.Your right on the "sound offs "Are they about total output or musical reproduction. My music tastes are very very mis jointed,e.g My rap hero is grandmaster flash,R & B guitar =Keith Richards,Ska for cruisin.Queen for screamin,M peeps for the lyrics,Real classical on road trips.Big Band from WW 2.& my latest album is scissor sisters,----see,told you.
Any suggestions for the front please & should I be putting tweeters up on the front pillars ?Which ones would be the best ? I`ve found enclosures for the pillars which are in fact instrument pods which could do or even use the centre area of the dash where I`ve removed the Air Con.
Without any one laughing I have found that the 4 speaker system in the Mondys that we have do cope well even when I`ve got the door mirrors vibrating.
I`ve been to Vibe on business & was offered the full kit at trade out but to be honest most of what the guy was saying went over my head and also I thought overpriced but marketed well.
Just to put it in a quick context if the guy offers you a speaker with 60RMS the reality is that it is only producing between 25 - 30 RMS all the time!!! and no when you turn it up it doesn't go up ....... i'm not sure how big the panels are at the front but if you have 3 ways there is absolutly no point in sticking Tweeters anywhere as these are really only to help if you only have a 2 ways speaker system. I think you're better to stick a couple of 10's in your doors ...... 2 Way this will just give your system that extra kick failing that why do you need another set of speakers ....... if the rear speakers are kicking out enough power what's the point You're paying out for a pair of Vibrators in effect

Ah,yes see your point,I thought that if I could get the high note output up to nearly head level I should be able to hear it better rather than being absorbed by the seats. The rear set do become a bit muffled when the boot is full & the back seat is stuffed up to the roof. This is the case a lot in the summer as I go to weekend cruises which means camping.
The fronts are two way,I`ll drop the cards off before the season starts again & have a measure.Should I go for 3 way up front & keep it simple, whose speaks would you reccomend?
Well if your rear speakers are getting muffled and getting absorbed into the seats then maybe it's time to reposition your speakers .......... Look at perhaps getting a st of 13's in the rear doors rather than 6x9's in the boot ........ you need to evaluate the situation properly!!! Depending on what you do you should a set of 3 way (preferably in the front as they are closest to you) and 2 ways in the back just to boost the bass. I have Infinity Speakers in my car ..... fantastic speakers and all the sound company's you speak to will say the same but as you're not looking for a complete overhall get a bottom of the range Alpine's!!! They're great for your car and won't cost you an awful lot. I was given a great bit of advice a few weeks back and that was to buy speaker systems etc from people who specialise in it not people who make kitchen appliences. Catch my drift

Chevy says ta for all the help/advice.Apparently its not the rears that are muffled until the camping kit gets loaded.it`s more the fronts in the door cards losing the quality into the seats.I think there`s goin` to be a re think at the front end.Don`t think he needs amps as it`s plenty loud already without distortion,,,,,are graphic EQs still available ?
Husky, the problem is Little Sniper can't take loud muisc with a lot of base and Sniper loves it, so what ever we do has to able to suit both the fussy men . All we've got at the moment is what cr*p Fiat put into their low end models, which pretty tish-tish when played loud. Any thoughts?

No,not really, they`re regular Camaro bucket seats, but the current speaker location is very low on the door. The speaker holes were already there when I got the car and were positioned within the carpeted area of the door cards, probaly just for looks.
Well the answer to that then is to try and angle ur speakers .......... As for the Fiat Fi ...... Just stick a half decent pair of Three Ways In the back and Two Ways in the door we've just done that in my boyfriends car and it sounds cool ........ bonus is you can whap the bass up and down how you like
