Paint School

I'll edit this first post adding links to pictures as I go along.

I thought I'd put pictures up on my yahoo albums page showing the steps I follow as I respray my Deuce. Not sprayed a complete car before so it's a learning curve for me. So if I fu*k it up you will know about it. If it comes out OK...ditto. I will be using a HVLP kit bought from Argos for 60 squid.

If you want to follow the project then click the link. I'll keep the links up to date here.

Filling Deuce. I've started so I'll have to finish it!!

Flatted and Stripping Deuce Flatted filler with 400 then 1200 wet.

Etch Primer Etch primed all the fenders. after flatting with 400 wet and cleaning with spirit wipe.

Completed Laying on Primer The whole car etch primed and ready for the Satin.

Satin Blacked!! Picture taken in the dark. I have not seen it in daylight yet myself. Will add more pics when I do.

Seen it in daylight now and it's OK. Had to re do the hood, roof and trunk. My gun dont like horizontal surfaces. Done them over with Tins.

It will be finished in Satin Black. This is a popular Hot Rod colour and is low maintenance.

I will be happy if it comes out like the following hue on this Satin Sled.

Sniper has only one thing to say about the Sled "Yummy!" and I now have a wet shoulder!   He is now walking around the house saying "Mmmmm Mmmmm!"

I love the front grille.

Nice bit of plop there boy ! If you want a hand flatting that lot down give us a shout.Never sprayed onto glass before, don`t you need to seal it or primer it first.

I`d go ask some advice, try Little Keith,he could probaly put you in touch with the lads in the spray shop.I`ve got Sporti Corti Tel number here,He knows where Keith is at.

Would it be worth waiting until a bit of warm drier weather?I did James`s Vette in the road in April

I've spoken to Andy and Kieth. Been down to BB refinishers in Halstead and got 1K etch primer which will go on first. Spoke to the boss there and will get their Satin Black cellulose which I can spray straight over the etch primer. As all Cellulose paint is porous it will need something to cover it for protection and I wont be able to use wax or car polish as it will shine glossy. He gave me a good tip....use back to black. This will give it a sheen without gloss.

Have already flatted and filled again then flatted again. Cheers for your offer anyway. Yes it's a bit cold for spraying. Could cause blooming. I'll be spraying the fenders, doors, grill surround, doors and trunk in the garage first and suppose I can shut the door and have a heater to warm it up first. Will have a mask on but reckon I'll need to escape now and again

More pics of what I done this afternoon. It was bloody freezing out there today too. At present I think the server is down.

Yeah it looks bitchin' fenderless. But I still prefer it fendered. 99% Satin 32's seem to be fenderless. Satin fendered would be different.

Not sure about the cruise lights...very 1970's. Save them for 70's nights I think.

Probably will put Purple neons just under the running boards and see what that looks like.

You're right, you've got to be different.  We like different with purple neons.  Too young to remember much of the '70's, but I do remember a guy not far from my parnets tarting up a 'tina and another chap having what seemed to 100's of Capri's, was probably only 4 or 5 in reality.

Hope you are feeling better today Ol' bird.

Had to go ito the market on Colchester High Street today...keep the other half happy. There was only a few stalls and not many people about. Been in the garage and found some more filler required on the fenders I took off yesterday. Jus t waiting for them to dry and I'll be off to flat it again. Might have some more pics tonight.

Yes thank you, tummy feels a little less a washing machine.  I think everyone must be in Ipswich today, the lights get turned on (ohh er misses!) this afternoon and the park & Ride is free today.

Mike has come up with a paint scheme for the Hawk: satin black with metalic green roof. Not to sure about it myself, he did say he might put neons on it..........

Glad your better My throat feels like sand paper. I did keep the garage door open and went out for air and a fag often.

Sounds like the Humber is going to be a lowrider?

Just added a new album to my project on the first post showing the fenders before primer then flatted then primered.

Sounds like you need a hot toddy there Deuce.  Hope the throat doesn't get any worse.

Sniper is yet again, working in the shed on the Hawk.  I'll try and take a few picky's and email them to you, if I can get the camera to work.

Cheers. It looks good in the dark. But it needs a blow over with the gun at a distance just to take the gloss of in some parts. Also inside doors, trunk and dashboard need doing.

Mandy reckons it would look more evil than the jeepers creepers truck in your rear mirror at night.

The few bits I have done can look 'patchy' if you're not careful. You almost need to get the colour on and then go over to get the finish right.

Looking good though

11th Sat. Went over the patchy bits with tins of satin...this seemed to work better. Added a few more pics to album on Satin Blacked at first posting.

Done the inner doors, window surrounds and inside trunk. Still not 100% with roof yet.

Just up dated the satin blacked album. Almost done now. Just got to finish the door hinges and underseal the fenders to protect from stones causing star cracks.
