Righto, this is the lump I built to go in my Zodiac's engine bay. In fact it is now bolted down, and just needs wiring and plumbing. It is a 3.5 litre Rover V8, and should hopefully be putting out around 180/190 bhp. Not much by modern standards, but it should be enough to get the job done! Specs as below.
Range Rover block, crank and heads.
Inlet valves replaced with SDi Vitesse valves.
8.1:1 Rangey pistons replaced with 9.75:1 SDi pistons.
Piper RP4 cam and lifters.
P6 timing case with aftermarket uprated high volume oil pump.
P6 Coupe headers.
Mallory dual-point Distributor, coil and plugleads, with Splitfire plugs.
Inlet manifold modified to take a Weber 38DGAS twinchoke carb.
Was up there this morning, fitting the transmission cooler lines, when I noticed that with the steering on full lock, part of the steering crosslink hits the bottom of the sump. When I mocked up and then fitted the lump, the steering was set to straight ahead, so I never noticed these iron warts on the crosslink. Now I have to dissasemble the whole steering setup, without damaging any of the seals, grind off these metal boils, and put it back together so that hopefully it will then all clear. Two steps forward, one step backward. Oh well, this is my hobby, this is what I do to relax!
The lumps are now gone! I had to remove the trans filler tube and trans cooler lines, which I had only just fitted the previous weekend, to get clearance for the grinder, and I was in real danger of slicing my face open, but I managed it without taking the damn steering system apart. Now it's just fitting the exhausts, and wiring, which Deuce has made a great start on already.
