The white wall tyres were added the previous owner and the 2 tone custom paint job was done about 20 years(1984ish), having just come out of a barn where she'd been laid up for the past 19 years(1963-1984). Hope that makes sense! The 3 litre engine was converted to run on unleaded petrol a couple of years ago.
Sniper has got plans to put a sunvisor on it, once a friend in Oz has tracked one down for us
The only whitewalls I can find in the UK are these Daytons from North Hants Tyre.
They be radials. I know crossplys look the business but I drive the rod a lot. Also they are only just over 26" tall which is 5" lower than my rear tyre height now. I'd lose some of the rake.
There's a debate going on at the moment on the Humber news group regarding X-plies & radials. Different situation I know, some are saying that radials are the bees-knees, whilst others say that it has to X-piles. At the end of the day, your the one has to drive the deuce and I do like whitewalls. Sniper says they'd look stupid on the Stilo.
Snipers asks if you are going to change your wheels as well?
I have always wanted American Racing Five Spokes. A bit like what I've got already. Although painted steels with chrome hubcaps would look good. Probably stick with what I've got and see how I feel later on
I'd stick with radials, I know crossplies look better and I love the look of the Snipe but it does feel a bit nervous and twitchy a lot of the time, especially with overlight power steering!
If you drive it a lot, and especially if you have a lot of power I'd be more confident with radials.
By the way did you know that Gary Janes (ex Dooster) has a whitewalling machine that can paint whitewalls on your original tyres?
Not sure they look as good as proper ones but better than flaps!
Yeah I think I read about Gary's whitewalls. He skims off the lettering and some of the sidewall before painting. I think paint is similar to or may even be ITBUK.
